The Monumental Mines had origins in the late 1800’s and early 1900’S. Back then, there was an entire community built around the mine. Originally the mine had a two hundred foot three compartment shaft. Eventually the mine closed due to poor management; but the historical notes show this to be a very rich mine. In the 1940’s there was some minor activity at the site and in the 1980’s a new owner again pursued exploration at the mine.
